P3 933 Chip Advice

🙂 Hi All. I was wondering what the difference is between these 2 Intel chips. (Other than the $20 bucks $ diff.) Is one just a little faster,or more stable,1 better for gaming etc? Like I said the only thing I see different is the $20. If someone could share their expertise on this matter I'd appreciate it.

INTEL PENTIUM III 933 MHZ (BX80526C933256E) PC133FSB COPPERMINE FLIP CHIP RETAILED W/COOLING FAN (3 YEARS WARRANTY) $520.00

INTEL PENTIUM III 933 MHZ (BX80526U933256E) COPPERMINE SECCII RETAILED W/COOLING FAN (3 YEARS WARRANTY) $540.00

Is it just me or is the second one Slot 1? I thought SECC-II was the Slot 1 packaging, but I didn't think they made Slot 1 933's. I'm confused.

Get the FCPGA socket version. Slot1/SECCII is basically dead technology. Very few (no highend) motherboard manufacturers are creating new processors for slot 1. If you have a slot 1 mothboard and are planning on buying the FCPGA version, you can simply get a slotket.

Even though it is $20 cheaper, you are losing no performance. Its priced less because the production costs are lower (less material used).

Good deal Windogg. That's what I was wondering. Now, I have to decide what muthabrd to use w\ it.lol Looking at a Gigabyte ,Asus and ???(forget name) brd. I'll post that q a little later I guess.

My favorite mobo right now is the ASUS CUSL2. Its rock solid stable and very easy to configure.

2 small quibbles. The temperature monitoring software is way inaccurate. Not by a few degress but by a whole planet. It registers an OCed 700E @ 933 at 40F. 25F below ambiant seems kinda shady. Some aftermarket heatsinks like the Golden Orb are a slightly tight fit. it almost impossible to get on on after the mobo has been mounted in the case. My advice is to mount it first outside the case.

I recommend the MSI 815E Pro over the Asus, its just as good if not better, and it comes in $23 cheaper.

If your and avid overclocker and have a slot1 mobo, i'd go with the slot1(secc2) cpu instead of the fcpga one.
Why? Well slot1 heatsinks are like twice the size of a fcpga one 🙂

<< slot1(secc2) >>

I have to say this, SECC2 is the skinny Slot-1 style used in P3s. SECC2 was also present in the PII400-450. Not sure on the 350. SECC is also slot-1 but you see these are the older generation PII. So SECC and SECC2 are not the same and be careful when u buy a HSF! SECC = Single Edge Contact Cartridge
SECC2 = Single Edge Contact Cartridge 2

Why did I just ramble on about SECC and SECC2? Who knows! haha 😀 😕
