I received my pair P3 850E (8.5x100) from Russ today.... the fastest FC-PGA on 100FSB... 850Mhz

BX6 R2 - Works fine, cracking RC5 as usual using BIOS QR. Works with NW also but boots as 550E.

Using Abit Slocket !!! & 1.65V

So far I tested the BX6R2 with

550E @ 100 FSB, 133FSB (733) x 5.5
733EB @ 133 FSB x 5.5
850E @ 100 FSB x 8.5

Pics available upon request..

I think you are mis-understanding the bios speeds you're seeing.

The chip will be locked at the 8.5 multiplier so the 533 you're seeing is going to be 8.5 x 66mhz which is what the bios will default to if it can't recognize the chip as an 800e.

In order to correctly run the chip you have to manually set the speed and multiplier in softmenu. The bios does not correctly identify the 800e as a 100 mhz device in the default settings. Works great when manuallly set though.

I just say it boots as 550e so the people that's going to try doesn't think it doesn't work.
How else would I have gone 850 if I didn't manually adjust the fsb.

forcesho,
Thanks. I have a BX6 R2 that I need to upgrade and was wondering if it would run an 800. I've been waiting for another BIOS upgrade but I guess I don't have to now. Thanks again.

forcesho, I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at, but it is basically impossible to run a (production) 850E at 550 MHz. It is also extremely unlikely you're running the 850E at 133 FSB (1.13 GHz) 1.65 V, even if you've got some serious cooling there. (As KR said, the chip is multiplier locked.)

All I said was you plug in the CPU and it comes up as 550 because the OLD BIOS CAN'T DETECT IT.. that's why it a 850 comes up as 550E

hey I have pictures and I can show you what it detects

I also pointed out in my first post that 850E @ 100 FSB x 8.5, I never said 133, none of my post has a 133 which is 1.13 ghz

850E is 8.5 x 100 not 850EB which is 8.5 x 133 (EB) that what EB stand for, enhanced & BUS

I only said E.
