P3 850 in an Abit bx6 rev2 ?

According to the abit website this board only supports up to 700mhz with the latest bios. On the other hand when i am in the bios i can choose 8.5x multiplier at 100mhz bus speed. I currently have a 366 celeron and want to upgrade to the highest 100mhz fsb processor which is the 850. If anyone has had any experience with this board and processor or have any info it would be much appreciated. I just don't want to end up buying the 850 and then find it doesn't work.

I dunno whether this helps. But I have a 800Mhz running on the same MB. The SoftMenu seems to support multipliers of 7.0 an above.

You probably can jump right to the 1000/100. I don't know the precise specs of that board, but if it is similar to the Intel BX-2, then it probably has an 8.4 VRM which permits the 1000/100. If you have any doubt about this, you may want to get the FCPGA version of the chip and use a voltage-regulating Slotket like the Powerleap one.

People using this chip on Dell systems with a BX-2 motherboard have found that it boots up just fine, although the CPU speed is not always posted correctly.

I have the same mobo, running a P3-700E @ 903. I didn't upgrade the bios either. I had a Celery 366 @ 550 before upgrading. I'm pretty sure you could get the P3-1000/100 and it would work. Not EXACTLY sure though.
