P3-800EB on BH6

I've acquired a spare slot 1 P3-800EB (I think, it has a 133FSB and 256k on die cache). I'd like to run in it my old reliable Abit BH6. The BIOS does not support it, but I am able to select a 133 FSB and a 6x multiplier. The AGP speed is set to a 2:3 divider, however, which would put it @ 88 or so (I imagine PCI is now @ 44). Everything tells me this is a bad idea. 🙂

I'm able to load Windows after ignoring the "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" message after POST. Windows seems to be working fine. Prime95 did not crash, per se, but I did come back to a system that was largely unusable. Windows did not show their contents, menus were laid over top of the empty windows, SysMetrix showed no change... but I could move the mouse fine and click on the imaginary menus. They just didn't do anything. 🙂

I could never get my BH6 to run at 133. Check justdeals.com they might have a MB that will do 133 and support your memory, etc. I bought a "new" old ASUS board for a PIII last year for ~$30 shipped. Take a look. R

I too have a BH6

Have you flash the BIOS, you should be able to get the motherboad to recognized P3-800 no problem.

Older AGP cards: Voodoo/TNT/Gefore1+2+3 didn't like the 88mhz AGP bus,
but I had no trouble running them with my Radeon.

My SB-Live ran okay with 44mhz PCI bus, but not my Netgear NIC.

Its a good idead to buy a real 133fsb motherboard nonetheless
