I`m building a new system for someone and cant decide on which cpu to use??? The system will not be OC`d and will be used for mild gaming & other average task (nothing real intense). I would assume the 133fsb would give better performance besides the extra 66mhz from the cpu... Idea`s & comments would help and be constructive please...

BTW they want Intel only.

there's two versions of the 800e: one that runs at 800/100, and one that runs at 800/133. the 800/133 costs ~$180 and the 866/133 costs ~$225. you pay 25% more for an 8.25% increase in speed...

(get the 800/133...)

If you're 100% certain they will never overclock it, then go with the 866. If they ever do want to overclock it, they'll be pissed to not have any headroom. 133MHz fsb is going to perform a little bit better, but nothing major. The main other things are look at the motherboard your using. Consider ram and AGP speed, especially if going BX. :)

Thanks (Steve) but it will be on an ASUS P3V4X board so AGP & PCI issues wont come into play... Also it will have 256 megs of PC133 ram (another question which would be better 1 256 meg stick or 2 128meg sticks???). Also there is only $6 difference between the 100 & 133fsb versions of the P3 800 and the "e" designates a 100fsb processor...

Thanks

Compuwiz1,

Can you fill me in a little bit on AGP speed? I really don't know much about it and how it affects system performance. How does increasing your fsb in a system affect your PCI/AGP speed? Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated.
