P3-800 or C533A@800 for gaming?

I just confirmed my version is a BH6 1.01 (assuming older)
with NV bios update. Don't see the need to go to SS yet. The website says that NV has support for the P3-600 but some people say they are running P3-800's here.

I currently run a 533A celeron at 800mhz, and want to know if getting a P3-800 or even higher if possible will make a noticeable difference in 3d gaming. (getting GF2 or GF2 MX) card soon also.

Spend your money on the video card and not the CPU. Buy the GeForce2 not the MX version. The CII is near the equal a PIII 650-700 . I just recently went from a CII 533@898MHz to my current system, and there was not a great amount of difference in actual gamming. A move to a PIII 800 and an MX would be a mistake. your 533@800MHz would max the fillrate of an MX card very easily, so there is no nead to spend any additional monies on a PIII.

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning towards a Geforce 2 card also.
So, a GTS would take advantage of the 800 Celeron huh? I just assumed the MX could keep up with the Celeron.

When I had my BM6/533@896 set-up, I was using a GeForce1 DDR card which is faster than an MX.
When I benched it 1024x768 32 bit I got 74.5 frames QIII time demo 1. With my current set up I got 76.5 frames. No much difference huh? Seeing how an earlier GeForce DDR will wipe the floor with an MX at that resolution, I would say go with the GTS instead of MX. If you buy an MX you will be wanting the GTS AND PIII sooner.
By the way @800MHz, same settings I did 72.6fps, @920MHz, 75.0fps.

No doubt, spend the money on a new video card. I got your same card but its in a duron 600@950 and it still chokes very bad, matter of fact isn't a big difference between my old 366a@550 and this one as far as 800x600 gaming goes. I am saving my pennies for Geforce 2 GTS or ultra, when the Geforce 3 comes out and those go down a bit.

if I Celeron 800 = a P3 650-700 then what would a Celeron 633@950 equal? P3 800 to 850?

Anyway I would go with a better video card and keep you current celeron setup.

Blayze, howabout PIII 833?:D, in games, but actually if you look at it from business type apps., supposedly the CII to is near equal to the PIII on a clock for clock basis, as long of course as the bus speed is 100MHz or higher.

If you have a C2 533@800 then that roughly equals a P3 600EB for Quake3 640x480x16. This resolution stresses the CPU, not the video card. If you look at 1024x768x32, then you see that the video card is the weak link, not the CPU.

In short, go get a more powerful video card. I use a Radeon and love it, but a GF2 is good as well.
