Long story...here's the short version. Bought this CPU from Dynasty Express within 10 day's of their closing. CPU worked on my abit BH6 mb just fine for about 20 minutes. Then started locking up. Did all the testing and decided it was the cpu not tolerating anything over about 150F. Tried it out in my BX6-2 machine all I got was an alarm as soon as I turned the machine on. No chance to get my $$$ back or exchange the the cpu.

Built another machine with a 1ghz instead. Ordered another 750 from Accubyte for my BX6-2 box. Worked fine till my son started playing Lucas arts game. Then started with the alarm again. Alarm triggers at 149F. Quit when I opened the box. Visiontek g-force2mx video card and 256k-p133 mushkin sdram. No extra cooling in this box except cpu fan, case fan and power source fan.

The Questions:

Is this a common problem with P3-750 SECC2?

Should I bag the 750 for different cpu?

Install more cooling?

Get a better Heatsink and Fan. Ask in the Cases and Cooling forum, I'm sure those guys will give you recommendations.

FWIW, a friend has been running a retail 750mhz SECC on an 820 board with the default heatsink/fan just fine for a few months.
