I'm in the military and i've been away for a while ...and my system is not up to speed...
I currently have a soyo sy-6vba 133 bx mobo with a katmai p3-450 oced to 500 with a GW vos32 heatsink...
I keep hearing good things about the 700e chips but they're always talking about the flip chip version not the slot 1 version...
how well do the slot 1 versions measure up? any advice or opinions?
thanx

I believe that the retail version is pretty good overclocking..
I have a 700e slot 1 version.. but I had to up the voltage to 1.9 to be rock solid at 933mhz..
I have no problems with it.. other than maybe running little warm..
around 40 C..

It's been running like that for about 2 months without any problems.. with win2000..

It's more of a gamble unless you buy a tested chip from bonkers32

You can make some slot1 work, but they generally don't overclock as well as FC-PGA. What I mean, is a lower percentage of slot1 overclock than with fc-pga.

No overclocking, just want to put a high speed processor in it..
I just wanted to make sure that it worked.. because the abit site only says that it supports up to 700..

I built a PIII 700E machine last week, but didn't bother OC, my friend also wanted a stable machine, and well...he's using it to check e-mail so he didn't need the OC. I'm going to OC his chip and see how stable it runs, I'll post results. I for one love the flip chips, my first attempt at OC was a great success with a retail PIII 650 cb0 stepping which I managed to OC to 1000mhz at only 1.75v, since then I dropped the speed to 950mhz since I didn't see a big difference...I've been running it at 950mhz for over 2months now, solid as a rock, temp. does not go over 28 degrees at full load using a GW Fop38 w/ Delta fan.
