P3 700E O/C to 933 on ASUS CUSL2

I was just wondering what the odds are of being able to O/C a P3 700E (cB0 stepping) to 133 FSB on an ASUS CUSL2 are. Is it a pretty sure bet, or is there good chance that expensive cooling devices would be required or that it wouldn't work at all? It seems like this would be the basis for a good cheap 933 MHz system. If the odds aren't pretty good, though, I guess I'd be better off spending $50 more on a 800EB and not O/Cing or going with a Thunderbird 900 setup instead.

They're fairly good, but not all p3-700E's will hit 933... there are a few dud weeks in there(22 comes to mind off the bat).

han888,
Is yours a cB0?

Mike,
Is there any way to identify which processors are among the duds? Isn't there even someplace that sells CPUs that are guaranteed to O/C to certain speeds? I wonder how much of a premium those places charge.

Thanks for the tip but I just looked and PCNut doesn't have any overclocked 700E combos in stock.

I just recently switched mobos from a P3B-F to a 6BA+IV

WHAT A SMART MOVE

I knew it was the mobo holding me back from overclocking
the crappy P3B-F could only make it do 840 stable (rebooting every day or so still)
and now the Soyo i tried 135 FSB right away, no probs at all... 1.65V,
it's flawless

haven't even tried more yet !!!!!

I can't wait to hit 1GHz, at this rate it may not even require psycho cooling!! the Soyo SY-6BA+IV is an amazing mobo! I love it!

and the PIII700 as well.. I love them both!

I've had a retail, Slot One P3-700 (cB0) running at default voltage and stock cooling at 927 MHz for the last four months. Oddly, the OS won't load at 133 FSB. Go figure.

Contrary to what my sig says, I am actually running my cB0 SL45Y P3-700E at 933 with 1.85 volts stable. And yes, it's from the dud week 22, Malay CPU.

how are they to oc to 1ghz? I'm getting a 700e soon, CB0 stepping, but I really want to try to get pass the gigahetrz barrier, my celeron2 566 come close to it, which can do 935.. I hope I can get better result w/ the 700e

i ran my 700e cb0 with stock cooling up to 966 on my setup. with my new Alpha pep66, i got it up to 1022@1.75 and ran stabilty test, prime95 and rc5 for a full day without giving out at all. i now have it turned back down to 933@1.65 because i have no need for that extra speed nor the extra voltage flowing through it. i did this on my trusty asus p3v4x. hope this helps you out a little.

My first cB0 was a week 22 and never would run stable at 933. I then bought one from bonkers that does 980 at default and will do 1015 at 1.75. Nice chip.
