I went to OC my P3 700e to 933, and upon reboot, it was recognized as a 466e. Then it went into BIOS and said that either the fsb/sdram/pci ratio was wrong, or the external frequency was wrong. All I did was change the ratio from 100:100:33 to 133:133:33 (which should have put me at 933). I even tried it at 1.75 volts instead of 1.65 and 1.7. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there are other settings I need to change to get it to work. All relevant PC info is in my sig. Thanks in advance :)

Thats what my asus board does when I unsucessfully overclock. If it hangs at bootup while detecting the processor frequency, the next time you start it, it chooses the lowest possible multiplier, fsb and default voltage. It basicly means "pick another fsb, because that didn't work"

It looks like your 700e may not do 133mhz @ 1.75v. Try a higher voltage or try a lower fsb.

Heh, funny thing is just yesterday I overclocked my 700e to 980mhz on my CUSL2 my first overclock:)When its booting up as a 466e its just in safety mode, to ensure a safe boot, so you can restore your original settings or try again. Your theory on how to do it is exactly correct and your doing nothing wrong. My 2 cents is that it needs more voltage for reference my 700e wanted 1.8volts to boot at 980 and its rock solid as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the replies guys. What is a safe voltage as a ceiling? Like is 1.9 too high to go without majorly damaging the processor?

Remember to check your RAM setting to CAS 333 instead of 222. Some RAM just couldn't do CAS 222 @ 133 Setting.

Its a problem with the bios version 1001.a (original bios) mine does it all the time (on cold boot). I dont want to flash because of stability problems (noted from cusl2.com) I doing real good with the new ASUS probe for my temp readings this can also be found on cusl2.com

P3 700e @1050mhz 1.65volts (for real)
CUSL2 bios ver. 1001.a
alot of other crap...

Kogan is right on the money. Your cpu doesn't like 133 @ 1.75. Bump it up a bit and see what happens. I don't like going over 1.85.

Bartman39,

On ASUS's website, it gives very specific instructions on how to avoid any problems when you flash to the latest bios. This is in BRIGHT RED letters right above the link to download the latest bios. It involves changing a video setting in the BIOS.
