I think my CPU temp is a tad high....but it feels fine, no stability problems, decent heatsink/fan and ventalation....

My system (profile outtadate so ignore it).

Asus CUSL2C
P3-700 FCPGA
Golden-orb cooler using very thin layer of artic-silver grease.
Windows 2000 Pro OS.
No "cooler" software used, reading obtained by Motherboard monitor v5(latest).
CPU Temp determined by on-CPU Thermistor
Room Temp determined by 10K thermister probe attached to motherboard and by an external handheld digital-thermonitor...both are within 1-2F of each other...usualy within .5F
Motherboard temp by Winbond chip...usually a 1-4F over room temp.

In BIOS SETUP Screen, CPU Temp hovers around 163F.
In Win2k, when running Prime95 for a few mins, temp hovers around 163F.
In Win2k, when idle, CPU Temp will actually fall below room temp by upto 4F.

My concern is that Intel rates my cpu core temp max at 80C which is about 176F....my cpu is running at 163F...that's only 12F difference. Also, on intel's spec, ambient air temp is 40C = 104F (my ambient air is usually around 70F).

For those with similar P3-chips, what are you getting for the CPU temp!?

Comments appreciated.

Thanks,
......Souka

Edit: Oh yeah, Intel P3 temp specs found here:

Hey Dude-

Well, running our favorite program, SETI 24/7 on my system: P3-750@930 and 1.75V, the temp maxes out at 57°C, floats between 53-57°C. After hours of fragging in Q3, it's about the same.

What voltage are u running at? Based on all the cooling tests I've been reading, the G-Orb IS SUCK. I'm using an Intel h/s fan. It's the larger, ALL aluminum model they started shipping a few months ago with the bigger fan....works great. Your temps are definately high. Do you have a retail h/s fan? If yes, i would swap it for the stinky g-orb.

- BT

PS- Let's talk in terms of °C and not °F, I love the metric system!

I'm running at default voltage, 1.65.

Far as heatsinks/fans.....I have tried (from a prize I won at 3dfxool.com awhile ago) these other heatsinks/fans....PHO-FAN and BigMoFoHO-FAN

They cooled just a bit better, maybe 1-2C, but the noise was way louder cuz of the fan.

Dunno what to do. :(

Do you have the latest BIOS? I know with my p3v4x, there were some issues early on with incorrect temps being reported. Might be same story with CUSL2C mobo...dunno 4 sure tho. You didn't say whether you had an Intel h/s fan????

Also, RU positive you have the correct amount of thermal goo applied?

BTW - My temps are higher than what some people report around here for the P3, so yours are SKY HIGH...in relative terms, esp. at default voltage.

Sorry... no, no intel fan'heatsink. bought the CPU oem ages ago....

Far as goo goes...I put a very thin amount on the CPU core...and I mean thin.

When I remove the heatsink, there is a very thin amount on it that transfered.

After looking in the BIOS at the "high" temp...I can shut down the system, remove heatsink, and feel the core...it feels warm like a mug full of coffee.....

I believe there is a BIOS update for the CUSCL2 board, but it addresses Linux issues....will look later this weekend...

I had the same problem... read this.
Using the correct compensation value, my diode never lies under MBM now

definetely seems hot

how is the air flow in your case?

is your case sitting in an open area or in some kind of an enclosure?

Opening my case and putting a 12" house fan blowing onto the case lowers temps by about 2-5F...not a lot...so I would assume ventilation is decent.

Will try out the calibration tonight.

Thanks for the article...looks good.

Heh....calibration worked. Sensor was reading 13C too high!

Also looked closely....when I twisted my orb, it was riding up on capacitor near the cpu...so the cpu core wasn't making contact.

Now my temps are running about 2C IDLE and 20C Stressed over the room temp.

Currently temps are 25c CPU, 26c MB, 22c intake.

Thanks guys!
