P3-650E overclocking question!

I may buy the cB0 P3-650E(FCPGA) ,been told it will be able to do 866mhz(using 6.5x133),do I have a realistic chance of doing this,I would like to know before I buy one ,btw will be using Golden Orb,Crucial PC133 ram & probably the Asus CUSL2 board ,any tips you can give me would help alot..

Oh, most definately. You'll probably at least hit 866. You may have to raise voltage, but you most likely will not have to. You could probably easily get over 140FSB with the components you have.

Good Luck!

Mike

I was able to get to 866 out of my 600e with cbo step. I don't see any real contraint that would prevent you from getting 866 out of 650e. Just make sure you research your components, and try to hold back any delusions of grandeour, until you have proper cooling.

I have the Golden Orb & Crucial ram(PC133)already,just found out that the Asus CUSL2 has arrived in UK but selling like hotcakes.Glad I have got the money together for CPU & board.

I just got a 650 cB0 (SL3XV) P!!! and thought it would do 866mhz no problem. I have a Soyo 7VCA, 128megs of generic PC133 RAM, SB Live! Value, GeForce SDR, w/ a golden ORB cooler. It posted all the way up to 930mhz (143x6.5) at default voltage. Wasn't stable, kept hard freezing in Quake3 and just kept taking the bus down :-( Tried more voltage and didn't do anything but make it hard freeze faster. Motherboard Monitor says the chip in a 32 celsius at full load w/ the golden orb on. Very pissed, lapped the orb, lapped the P!!! and still no go at 866. The lapping got me from 820mhz (126x6.5) to 845mhz (130x6.5) stable and a cooler temp but I still can't get 866mhz stable.

I think maybe I just got a dud 650 cB0. Can anyone see any reason why this system can't make 133mhz front side bus? Its a real disappointment to me, any suggestions would be appreciated. I would say on a 650 cB0, 866 is no gimme. BTW I got this OEM cpu at Krex.

Overclocking is never guaranteed, but the vast majority of 650E cb0's do hit 866... looks like you did get a dud, sorry man.

How exactly do you measure the speed your processor is running at? Is there an application in Windows that allows you to monitor stuff like that?

My 650E can do 975MHz using 1.75v on any motherboard I tried --) Asus P3B-F, P3V4X, Abit SE6. It will boot into windows at 1005MHz or something but it is not stable 🙁

My 650 cb0 did 866 at 1.65v with this system:

p3v4x
650 cb0@866 with a gorb
128MB PC133 cas2 Apacer/infineon ram
10.2 gig matrox 7200 rpm drive
acer 50x cd drive
visiontek sdr geforce

funny thing is I cant go any higher. Something is holding me back, not sure what though. Hopefully I will find out soon but I think I can deal with 866 MHz 🙂

Need some help....
I got the PIII 600E and a gigabyte GA-6VX7-4X VIA Apollo Pro Family AGPset motherboard. I was wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the voltage setttings on my motherboard. It looks like its auto detect, and I looked in the bios, there are no settings. I looked on the board itself, and where the jumpers are supposed to be, they are gone.
