I own a p3 450, 1x64 + 2x32 mb pc 100 memory, Creatives RIVA TNT on an ABIT bx6 motherboard.
I am thinking of upgrading to a duron config, but before doing so, thought
I'd maximize performance in this rig. What would be advices for overclocking
on this? The softmenu allows me to do this, although the agp doesn't allow 1/2.
ANYONE?

I had 2 of the P3-450s. 1 did 558 (124 FSB), the other 630 (140 FSB)! It all depends on the cache chips. Check the speed on the cache, if its 4.5ns or 4ns, you should hit 600+. Of course any lower # like 3.5 is better, any higher like 5.5 would OC less.

Well you probably have a bx board and the chipset does not suport 1/2 agp multiplier so thats perfectly normal. Dont forget to disable speed hold error in bios.

If for gaming, the cheapest upgrade would be to buy a new video card, and jack the bus speed up to 112 MHz. I wouldn't go higher than that because at 112 you're already running a 37.5 MHz PCI bus... unless you can hit 124 MHz, assuming the thing has a 1/4 PCI divider --> 31 MHz PCI, AND you've got very good PC-100 memory. (You will have to set CAS 3 though.)

Eug,
"have" is a strong word, its not always nessicary to do that. my pc100 will still hold cas2 at 148mhz, i cant wait to get it on a board that i can give it more with:)

I had a P3-450 with an Abit BF6 as my primary system a month or two ago, it does 621MHz at default voltage with an Alpha P3125 and dual Sunon 80mms. The cache chips are 5.5ns.

Thanks for the info, people. Where do I find cache speed info? On the chip or what?

It should be a number on the chip, usually at the end. It's probably something like "5.5" or "4", which will indicate whether it's 4 or 5.5ns (or another) speed cache chip.

Got it running at 504, but after a while "blue screen of death" appears telling me something is wrong with win etc etc. Could it be cooling? Got original FHS.

Mine would do 580MHz without any problem on my BX6.2, running 129 FSB and 2.2V. That was with a stock HS/Fan.

I would say your ram is crapping out. Mine crashes at 124 and the problem is the momory.
