P2P Program for college computers

I'm in my college computer lab right now and I don't have administrator privileges of course. I want to be able to use a P2P program on this T-1 connection, since I only have a dialup at home. I tried installing kazaalite but couldn't. For some reason, I installed textpad and it installed correctly, except that I had to use my personal directory on the network that the college allowed us so we can save files. And it wouldn't write registry files. Other than that, it was fine. As for kazaa, it wouldn't even start to install and said I don't have admin rights immediately after I double clicked the set up file. So why did textpad install right but not kazaa?

Anyway, my question is that are there any p2p programs that run as an executable alone (i.e. I don't have to actually run setup) so I can use it on my college's computers?

Gee, why don't you just walk right up to the admin and ask him if you can hijack the massive pipe for your purposes of downloading copyrighted media? I'm sure they'll just say "Oh, go ahead, we won't get in any trouble" and give you an admin account.

Enjoying your view from up there? How is it any different from college students in dorms using p2p programs? I'm paying tuition, I'm paying for the computer labs, equipments, and internet access. And it's not like I'm going to spend 24 hours a day here using all the bandwidth. And I'm not asking for a way to "hack" around the admin rights...just a program that runs as an executeable. Get off your high horse and abandon that holier than thou attitude asswipe.

There are hundreds if not thousands of other students that pay the same amount as you to use those resources. Now they must wait or suffer a slight slow down in overall connection because you want to use a P2P application on a university owned computer. They did not give you admin access for a reason so stop trying to get around it.

Using the university owned computer is no where near the same idea as using a P2P application in a dorm room. The computers being used in a dorm room are personally owned and it is not the university's responsibility to maintain those machines.

Well then, if it's no different, then why do you want to use your P2P program from the labs? Not getting enough mp33333z and pr0n from your room? The difference is that the students in dorms are usually placed under some manner of bandwidth limitation / packet shaping, which prevents them from eating up 90% of the school's bandwidth. You're asking to jack in outside that protective layer and choke the school's corporate side (web servers, domain machines, internal network traffic) with your piracy. And yes, I am better than you. Having worked on the administration side of IS/T in a university, I can tell you confidently that even if you do succeed, expect to have a very angry sysadmin revoking your account, your dorm connection, and probably reporting your sorry ass to the abuse department.

Get bent.

helping you bypass security/administrative controls on a PC YOU DON'T OWN is probably illegal or at least a breach of the IT policy of your school

the fact that you pay tuition doesn't give you the right to determine usage policy of university bandwidth/computers

Common sense: it's summer quarter, most students are at home, not at school, which drastically reduces the number of people using bandwidth, either at computer labs or from dorms. As for the students who are here, one person d/ling a 20 MB file won't affect their web browsing a bit, especially on a T-1 line. I'm not asking to hack admin rights, just using a standalone executable that can be easily deleted so no maitenance nightmare there. Logic isn't that hard to come by, is it? Or is it just an insatiable need to feel righteous.

But whatever, I'm sure there aren't any standalone executable so thanks for the extreme helpfulness everyone...

I thought that discussions of techniques to bypass network security/managment are not allowed here, which in a roundabout manner, you are asking for help on.

You proved that with every one of your posts in this thread.

Or maybe I speak from experience. I had to deal with people like you everyday when I worked in the computer labs on campus. Then again it is summer now so the computer lab rules go out the window and piracy/warez is legal.

Your stupidity has just manifested itself further. Oh, it's summer. Most people aren't using their snowmachines. I think I'll steal a few dozen. No one will mind. I'll bring them back, I promise.

Get this through your l33t w4r3z do000d head - using school bandwidth to pirate is dumb. Buy highspeed if you need your pr0n fix that bad. :disgust:
