p2p port number lists

So does anyone have a decently good list of port numbers to block so I can prevent users on a lan from using p2p apps? I've been given a sonicwall soho3 to do the job with which I think isn't going to provide what they're hoping for, but its all they'll do. They understand it won't block it all, but they still seem to think it will cut down on p2p traffic considerably. It looks like the only thing I can do on this box to help is block specific ports.

Using a default deny policy and explicitly allowing port 80, 25, 110, etc kazaa didn't log on. It really needs a default to accept policy though and I'm fighting blocking kazaa like that among other things..... Back to ethereal for now 😀

blocking ports won't really do the trick against most p2p as they either jump ports or even use ports such as 80, 110 for transfer.

you really need to rip apart the packets to look with somethign like a packateer (Spelling? or a machine set to look).

you can easily google for a list of ports but as I am saying and has been said in this forum port blocking is nto the best solution

As I said I'm well aware it probably won't be at all effective, but they insist on this as being the only thing they want to do so I figure I'll put in the time to block the ports and let the blame fall where it should when it doesn't work 😀

ok, then search either the forums or the internet for the lists of default ports.

I've seen them around.
