P2P on WinXP Pro

I have sort of the same problem as aeroguy in an earlier post. I have an xp pro machine and a 98 machine. they both run the internet perfectly and the xp machine sees all shared files on other computers. But when I try to access files on xp from 98 it always says 'Permission denied'. I haven't played too much with xp permissions (or NT or 2000 for that matter) but xp says that everyone should be able to access the files. All I really did was click the 'shared as' bullett and the 'Full Access' check box and clicked ok. Is there anything else I should do or know to allow my other 98 machines P2P access to my XP machines files?

Thanks in advance.

From 98 to XP is a pain...but at least you have XP Pro and not home. First if not done, make a username with a password on the 98 machine. User/Pass. Then make the same user with the same password on the XP machine and add this user to both the permissions AND security tab under sharing. Enable appropriate access. You can also try the "Everyone" user in BOTH tabs with the appropriate access enabled that you want the other computer to have. The Everyone user is less secure though, but probably not a big deal for you.

If you have permissions set, but don't have rights to access the folder under the security tab, you still won't be able to access it. Hope this helps.

It should not be a problem as long as it set correctly.

Millions of Networks have Win98 and WinXP communicate with Joy.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.

Link to: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing.

Read the appropriate content and go over the settings slowly it might take an hours but it will save many more.
