P2B + KAMAI 600 OC or P2B + Coppermine 750?

I have an old P2B MB hardware rev 1.05 at hand. I did some
research and found out that I can either use up to PIII Kamai 600 MHz
or use a slocket to run Coppermine at up to 800MHz( at risk
since the voltage difference).


My question: is P2B + Kamai 600 OC-able?
if yes, i 'll grab a Kamai 600 and try it.

The Katmai won't overclock, since it's at the top end of the .25 micron process, and Intel already needed to up the default voltage from 2.0 to 2.05 volts.

Go for the Coppermine 750 on a slotket instead.

andyhui is right, i had a p3 550 kat and it would not overclock past the 570s, although i was happy with it since i got an unlocked chip

I've had 4 Katmai 600's and the BEST one would only do 672! How low will your voltage go? If no lower than 2v, then the cuMine might be a costly experiment.

Nope.

As for Coppermine, your board will hit 1.8 V for sure (which is safe for a Coppermine if you have a Gorb or better), and may even go lower, as long as you flash to the current BIOS. If you buy a Celeron 533A and overclock to 800 or 824 it will do about as well as a Coppermine PIII 700E (non overclocked) on average.

Get yourself an MSI MS-6905 Master slocket and a Coppermine of some sort, flash your BIOS, and enjoy the speed.

anyways, i would stay away from katmais as much as possible as they are not really worth what you pay for, and they cant overclock at all now. I would say a 700e will do a perfect job
