P2B-DS, WIN XP & USB printers

I am trying to hook up two USB printers to my small office server built on a P2B-DS w/dual PIII 500's and Windows XP. A USB mouse attached works perfectly, but not the printers. They are a Brother HL-1650 and an HP 990CXi. I have tried several different cables. The symtoms are this: the OS recognizes the printers and they are listed as 'ready'. When printing a test page the document shows up in the printer queue with the status 'Printing'. This very quickly changes to 'Error - Printing' and then 'Error - Restarting'. The document never does print and when it is cancelled the printer status switches to 'offline'. With two different printers and four different cables, I am beginning to suspect the motherboard. The BIOS is rev 13 beta 7. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

There is an issue with certain revisions of this board in regards to an incorrectly (?) rated resistor that supplies a lower than usual amount of power to the USB ports. There are certain workarounds available for this....

At the time of discovery of this issue, you were supposed to send your board back to the ASUS distro for a rework.

I'll post later when I can find the fix.
