p182 and vertical hardrive cage

I noticed the p180/182 both use a hardrive cage that forces the drives into a vertical position. I thought I read somewhere this isn't a good idea for 7200 RPM drives, but I can't find the link or remember why! Is this total BS or what?

That's one of those old truths that never dies. It USED to be an issue with drives (had nothing to do with RPM). And by used to I mean back when 200MB hdds were the shiznit and they were full height (as in 3+ inches tall).

Nowadays it's only a problem if the drive is mounted at an angle. Since cases are made to they're mounted "flat", it's irrelevant, unless you use decoupling materials like foam or bungee cord and you have it leaning to one side or propped up at an angle.

It's total BS with modern hard drives. I've got two drives in the bottom cage of my P180, plus if it was "bad" for your drives, why would Antec position them that way?

I have 3 drives in the bottom chamber; nothing wrong with them. I don't think drive position/orientation matter as long as they stay affixed (not swinging like hammock LOL); it'll be fine.
