P180 vs 3D Aurora

My friend wants to buy a new case, and after looking at Many, Many cases we settled on 2. Some of the cases looked at were the Lian Li PC6/7, Antec P160, Cooler Master Mystique, etc. Out of all these good cases, he really liked the Antec P180 and the Gigabyte 3D Aurora. The Antec is heavy, so that detracts from its LAN-party ability, and my friend likes to go to LAN parties. He does like the quietness features of the P180 tho, and in the end there were just too many comparisons for him to decide.

So, which case do you guys pick and why?

Get the P150 instead. It's a quiet case that's lighter than the P180. It's also smaller, so that'll help when lugging it around.

If I were to pick between the p180 and aurora, I'd choose the aurora. From what I hear it is just as quiet and faily light.

When loaded, I doubt either of them will be light. He might as well go with an Antec Super LanBoy or a Thermaltake Matrix VX.

what part of the OP`s post is not understood??

lololol

Of those the Aurora, the P180 is a expensive heap of cheap plastic and steel in my opinion.

Have you looked at the Lian Li V1100?

whats funny is they explixitly asked for an opinion on those 2 cases!
I dodn`t see them ask about other cases..

They explicitly asked for a opinion on one or the other.
Thay also state that they have checked out other cases and had decided on these 2..lol

🙂

I think both cases are poor choices, especially if you are considering a LAN rig. I currently have a "big rig" that stays home, and am working on a LAN rig based off of a Cooler Master Centurian 540 with a mATX board to be completed late this year.

I am looking at a small rig because I had a mid-tower Lian-Li I lugged around to LAN parties, and fully loaded, that was heavy--and that was an aluminum case.

So if you are set on the Aurora or the P180, be my guest. I think you will get tired of lugging either one though.

Hello,

I would like to say that I like how sleek the P180 looks. I like the simplicity. I like the internal layout. I really like the noise reduction factor. And its price is a bit better. I am not so sure I like a full front panel... And is it too simple looking for lan parties? Is it too heavy? I probably won't care much about weight as long as it is kick ass looking for lan parties.

But in the 3D Aurora, I like the look. I like that it doesn't have a full door. I like the glowy like thing on the floor. I like the side vent and the fact that the side door can have no thumb screws. But then again, the inside is very standard and it doesn't have the sound dampering like the P180 does. It is lighter, which is good. But the price is a bit high?

What do you guys think?

Kyle, if you're gonna come to one of my LANs again, you better be bringing a small case 😛. I now switch my recommendation to a 3D Aurora since it's cool looking. You also get better cooling. You don't need sound dampening if you have quiet fans. Sometimes, you might even want more powerful fans to push/pull more air (hook it up to a fan controller if you want it to be quieter). The 3D Aurora isn't that much more...129.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811233002 ) compared to P180 at 119.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129154 ).

EDIT: If you're going P180B, it's same price as 3D Aurora: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129017

Antec P180 is really ****** case when we compare.

can you elaborate on that? I'm trying to decide between a P180 and Aurora too, tough choice as far as I can tell.

Read here.

Personally I'd rather have a Lian Li then either of them.

Operandi: I've thrown Lian Li into the choices but Kyle thinks it's too "standard." I still say it's more convenient to have no door than to actually have one.

Thanks.

Yea, I'd prefer a Lian Li but they are over my budget, I want silence and the option for water cooling. From what I've read the Aurora is not as quiet as the P180 but has more space for water cooling so it's 50/50.

I would go with P150 which is better case comes with PS, and 120 mm fan. I would replace that fan with other quieter 120 mm on the back, and two 92 mm I think in the front to create perfect airflow.

I love my p180 however its no LAN party case. I've taking it to a couple LANs and its a chore.

If you're picking a case for LAN parties, the p180 is not your best choice.
