p180 v lian li v1000

so what makes the p180 better???

grant it, the p180 has two 120mm intakes. any other advantage other than this (and possibly sound?)

i dont care about sound becuase my video card and northbrige are plenty loud and it doesnt bother me to the point where i am motivated to fix it ;)

i'm really taking a close look at the LL becasue it is so much more asthetically pleasing (to me) than the 180

Dual chamber = better for cooling.

Also it's not possibly better for sound, it's much better for sound ;) having said that if you don't care then it's rather irrelevant for you.

Well it seems like you like the lian li more anyways. I like my P180 aesthetically, it looks like a fridge.

I think the most attractive feature of the P180 though is the advanced internal layout, everything makes sense, everythings easy. It even has a built in plastic toolbox inside the case, and the 5.25 and 3.5 drive bays can be removed from the front, so no danger of struggling to pull them out through the side panel from the inside and dropping them (its happened with a cheaper case). Theres also plenty of space inside the case! Its excellent. It really does deserve the title of "advanced super midi tower"

It sounds like you want the V1000. Go for it. It's a great case.

I just replaced a v1000 with the P180 and don't regret it. But it's not exactly an improvement either. Just new and different.

My biggest issue with the V1000 was resonance. I could have bought one of the Nexus hard drive encloses for $50 to put my Raptor in and problably fixed the problem, but I was ready for a change.

The thing I liked best was the overall quality of the case. If taken care of it would last forever, something I don't think I could boast about the P180.

can u comment on the PSU chamber??? is it as tight as the p180?

I have a 500w Bluestorm and didn't have a problem fitting it in either case. I believe the chamber is longer in the P180.

I think I remember reading that people were having problems with the longer PSU's in the V1000. U migh want to go read the user comments at the egg.

If you go with P180, make sure your PSU leads are long enough for your motherboard. I was at a similar situation with you and decided on V1000. I think I made a right decision but there are a couple drawbacks of V1000. First and most of all - which is my biggest gripe - the back exhaust holes for a 120mm fan are too small. Not sure how to explain this - you really need to check the pics. The V1000 has holes all over its body, and those holes are same size everywhere. Unfortunately the size of the holes are not big enough. It's not an issue for intake, but it's not ideal for exhaust. For example, the back 120mm fan not only exhausts hot air, but also bounces the hot air back inside the case, because the holes are not big enough.

The second gripe is space. If you have lots of stuff for your rig, you'll easily get into a space problem.

The good news is, Lian-li now has a V1000W - wider version of V1000. It solves most of the space problem. Take a look at this.

All in all, I'd pick V1000 (mine is actually V1000B) again over P180, but the case is not without its own shortcomings. As an overclocker, I also value lower temps more than lower noise, and IMO Temp: V1000 > P180, Acoustics: P180 > V1000.

Don't those Lian Li's have trouble with a PSU like the OCZ Powerstream 520 ? I had the Bluestorm and I know that is a shorter PSU. This maybe my biggest problem with some of the Lian Li's, lack of compatablity with my psu, which I am keeping.

the early versions did but the new ones have removeable drive cages in the lower section so you can get any power supply in there.

Lian Li cases are like the Rolls Royces of cases. The p180 may in fact be quieter to a degree and definitely makes more sense pricewise, but nothing matches the build quality and feel of Lian Li. I would easily choose the Lian Li over the p180 if price was not an issue, no contest. The p180 is that sensible mid sized family car that does everything well for a low price, the Lian Li is a Rolls Royce....with some "quirks", but in something of this caliber, the quirks give it 'character' rather then what I would call flaws.

I have the LL 1000B. I think is good, but I don't see it as good as how people are worshipping it. Problem I find with it is that on the advertistments you see the airflow going through the case. In reality, it doesn't happen because there is no intake fan. The bottom fan only serves 1 purpose and that's to cool the hard drives. You really have no fresh air coming into the LL 1000. I actually took out two 5 1/4 bays and install 2 fans on it to cool my stuff down a bit.

Another problem I see is the heat coming from the video card. Unless you cut a blow hole on top the hot air is trapped inside the case. The 120mm exhaust fan is kind of far from the video card and we know that heat tends to rise upward, so problem I see is that the case temperature will generally rise because this hot air just can't get out.

I've been using it for about a year already. I think it serves its purpose but I don't think it was worth my entire $180.

Also, this case requires a lot of modding if you plan to water cool it because there really isn't much room for a dual 120mm radiator. I think I will look into a stacker. 2x 120mm exhaust and up to 3x 120mm intake.

Is the V1000 worth the extra eighty to one hundred dollars more than the P180 ?
Is it a quiet case ?
