P180 top exhaust fan

Has anyone tried setting the top fan on their P180 to an intake fan rather than an exhaust fan? Did this work well, or is it useless this way? Would be better to leave the hole open for the rear exhaust fan to suck fresh air in through that opening? Just looking to try something different.

I have it set as an intake blowing down on my CNPS9500 CPU Cooler. Just installed this cooler and have not noticed any remarkable difference in temps from my stock amd (2) pipe cooler. I have a total of 5 fans running in my p 180. I utilize the Graphics card intake with a fan, lower hdd intake fan (low Speed), front intake fan (Self adjusting), top intake (Low Speed) and back exhaust fan (Med Speed). I'm running stock speeds with no ovclkg. I've tried different speeds and setups and found using the top as an intake lowered the temps more than the heatsink. The following are my temps with the room at 72 deg. F.

there has been numerous discussions on this issue

Some tape the top fan slot over...The top fan is a source of moderate noise, IMHO.

I have used both as an intake(lowered sys.temps a bit, cpu was slightly higher) and as an exhaust fan

You will need to try both ..alot depends on your system and heat sources...if you have alot of heat generating components..you may want the fan as an exhaust, if you have sool running parts and want quiet..tape it over

I've got the top fan as an intake blowing right onto my CPU heatsink, but you need to see if it'll help in your case.

You can say there have been alot of discussions about this, but it's all moot when this particular forum only has 2 pages and all the topics are gone.

Anyway, I set the top fan as an intake. I was thinking it may help in my situation to get cooler air down on the CPU because I live in Florida and my PC heats up pretty quickly.

I just tried the top blowhole fan as an intake and it def. lowered my temps a few degrees. I have now reached the sub 30c mark on one of my cpu cores.

FYI: I live in FL too

When I referred to alot of discussions, unlike amny I was not suggesting to use search function but with your comment about only 2 pages in the forum, you do need to search...I hit the next button and got to page 4!(maybe some maintenance was being done)

I was trying to point out this was a "hot" topic with no good answer, the answer varies from setup to setup and room temps may have a big affect as well

Ok now there's 3 pages and that doesn't matter because every topic on this case that may have had some people trying this, are gone.

After reading this thead I decided to change the top fan in my p180 to an intake to see if it'd make things any better. My Athlon 3200+ is now running 3-4ºC cooler than it was, motherboard about 2ºC cooler. Good stuff.

I ran mine as an intake for a while with a YL, then taped it off a few months ago (beginning of summer). No temp change. Just quieter now.

yeah, but my question was related to using it as an exhaust. I think blowing air down to dissipate some of that heat was a good idea.

Heat rises. Either tape turn the fan off for passive ventilation if you are concerned with noise or keep it blow out if you want better cooling. The rear and top exhaust fan keeps the hot air generated by the CPU from being recycled in the case.

Well, my CPU HSF is a thermalright Ultra-120 with Panaflow H1BX (103cfm) blowing straight OUT the back. So there's no heat to sit around at all.
