P180 intake filter slowing down fan

When I put my Nexus 120mm intake fan for the upper chamber on my p180 I can hear it "throttle down" When I install the included dust filter. The fans normally spin at 1140RPMs (according to mobo) but when the dust filter is put on it drops to almost 850rpms.

Is this normal? The filters get cleaned almost once a week cuz my roommates have 3 cats and a dog, so they get packed with hair. But even when whey are freshly cleaned they still bring it down almost 300rpms.

Like I said above, I can't just remove them cuz of the pet hair problem. Is there anything else I could use for a filter or maybe get some aftermarket high-flo filters?

Too bad K&N doesn't make high-flow PC dust filters 😀

Thanks Yankee,

I saw the thread right after I posted 😱

The link is great, I'm a big K&N fan - I have 9" K&N cone intake on my 98' Monte Carlo

edit: too bad it doesn't add horsepower to your computer 😎
