P180 Fan Mount BEFORE Lower HD Cage

I saw that there was already a post on this subject and was wondering if anyone came to any definitive conclusion as to whether the space in FRONT of the Lower Hard drive cage in the P180B would support a 120mm or 92mm fan. I was planning on using this space to pull more cool air from the front of the case over the hard drives than just the middle-mounted fan.

I was also planning on taking OUT the middle fan. Thus, I would just have a 120x25mm (or 92x25mm) fan in the front, sucking in fresh air.

My power supply is the modular Silverstone 750W Zeus and I only have 1 hard drive, which I plan on putting in the lower cage. The upper cage will be removed and utilize a 120mm fan to pull air into the upper chamber, if this is of any use to you. THanks guys!

Adding this fan won't change your temps in any drastic way - What is your reasoning behind putting a fan in front of the harddrive? It is especially pointless since you only have one hardrive

I am really convinced it will do better to get cooler air in the system than with having the fan in the middle. Nothing to substantiate the claim, though. Thanks for the reply, first one so far.

Another fan will add a little to your rig's noise factor, but it really won't do much for your temps anywhere where it really counts.

Moving the fan from the middle to the front should make some difference, but with the equipment you're running, it won't be a meaningful difference that's worth the effort.

It's not possible. Moreover, it's a hard drive, not an overclocked CPU, so it's not like it matters. Anyway, the middle fan pulls the cool air over the hard drives anyway, so I wouldn't see the point even if was possible.

It is possible. nealh has one in there. If search worked around here, you could find a post of his with a pic or 2. The point is to move the fan up front and make the cable management out of the psu chamber a little less cramped. Especially with a larger psu.

As a cable management freak, that would make it worth it for me, but only for cable management.

found the link. Awesome guys.

I have really been thinking this over. I mean, there is the power supply issue where the fan may just be a hair too big with all the cables, and having the fan in front would relieve some of that. Also, I really think it would pull MORE volume of air, and air that is cooler, right from the front. I plan on using a vantec stealth, anyhow, so its not going to be pulling OODLEs of air anyhow. however, I figured 1-2C cooler air would help on the hard drive. Yes, it is a hard drive, but keeping a drive cool doesn't hurt longevity either. Mine cooks right now at 50C or something insane.

Anyhow, I shot a PM to neal and hopefully he will reply.

Vantec Stealth are crappy fans that aren't remotely quiet. Get a Yate Loon from Jab-tech (or wherever) and undervolt it.

Sorry for stating the obvious, but why don't you try it yourself, and let us know how it works out?

That way, you can substantiate your claim... ;)

I just placed a 92 mm fan and used plastic ties to secure it. Does it help? That is debatable, but it can?t hurt.
