P180 + 100mph tape + Velcro tape =

When I first got the case I was pretty happy with it running a AMD3200 x2.

but now OCing a E6750 to 3.7ghz i found it to be quite loud when i have fans at high speed with a heatpipe cpu cooler.

I have the P180 old style without the cable management, but still wanted a clean case without spending another $150 on the P182.

So I armed myself with duct tape, industrial strength velcro tape, and utilily knife I went to work.

First I trimed off some of the fins off the front fan intake doors to be better at air flow. they were quite easy to cut with a sharp utility knife. I just used it to score the back of the fins, 2 scores each at the ends. And pressed down with utility knife at an angle from the front. they just broke off quite easy.

Then I wanted to seperate the bottom chamber as much as i could as the top, so I bundled the cable good and used duct tape to cover rest of the holes.

Instead of using screws I used aheasive backed Industrial strength Velco. They are quite strong and it takes some muscle to take them apart, just a warning.
I cut small triangles on the each of teh corners and vwalla, vibration isolation as well as tool less fan removal.

I reduced my case temp by 6c from just doing these mods.

I also tried removing the central fan in the lower HDD/PSU chamber and my HDD's went up to 50c+ during intensive multi HDD access. I have 2 x 32GB raptors and 1 x 120gb 7200rpm WD HD.
So I put the fan back. and HDD's stay below 35c.
Another was that heat from bottom chamber was radiating to the top chamber through the chase, and even when chambers isolated my case temp rose to 35c without the lower case fan.

I have total of 6 120mm fans in the case. I will soon replace the Silenx and the fan that came with the CM hyper212. since they are now the loudest component other than the raptors.

The "filter door mod" is a great one to do. I did it to my P180 a few weeks back and it reduced my case temp by 3C which is a pretty significant reduction.

I'm glad to see that you put the fan back in the HD/PS chamber; the P18x series of cases absolutely NEEDS this fan to function properly. Particularly if you have 10K rpm drives down there or if you have all 4 bays full.

The P18x cases are some of the best cases you can buy today, IMO. BUT, they sure are a PITA to work with, especially for cable routing with the original P180. They fixed a LOT of issues with the P182.

I modded my P180 to a P182; it was a lot of work. I'll post some pics here in a few minutes. They arent' the best quality, but you'll get the idea.

wow. I'd like to see that mod. It sure looks like a PIA to raise the mobo plate to allow cables to go behind it

I also need to put a filter cover for the 5.25" drive bays i use for fan intake, It's still a on going mod. I want to make a acrylic duct for cpu to rear case fan intead of the ducttape. but thats another adventure.

It looks like the P182 series raised the rear fan vent to more in line with tower cpu coolers from pictures, though i'm uncertain

It's impossible to raise the motherboard plate, so you've got to do the best you can. The pics aren't that great; I forgot to take any pics of the case EMPTY.

No pics of the filter door mod, but its' the same as yours, PLUS I cut out the steel grills behind the filters. Have Dremel, not afraid to use it. :D

The biggest PITA was cutting thru the area behind the upper HD cage. The nice thing is that the "floor" under it is hollow and that's where I sneaked all the case front panel wires thru.

Backside.

A whole lot of cables stuffed in here!

Inside the case. (I made the SATA cables a little neater after this pic...there are 6 HDs in there!)

Between the power supply and the fan. Notice that all cables run BEHIND the fan, at the back of the case. :)

hmm.. those are pretty clever mods. nicely done,

Now i'm getting ideas what to do with mine.

Thanks. time to whip out my dremmel.

I'm gonna need a 8 pin power cord extender.

@MichaelD...did you replace the lower chamber fan?
I've got some Slipstreams on the way, but can't figure out how to get this fan out. I contacted Antec, but their suggestion didn't help. Of course it don't help that i'm a little dumb & alot clumsy!

The entire black casing will come out. It is held in by tabs. Just use a little force and it will slide towards you. Then you can tilt the casing and it will come right out.

Don't pull too hard on the outside of the case as it is pretty flimsy and will break.

lol. They are very flimsy. Rest of the case if solid but those fan holders and the front fan grills are pathetic.

take those out and use velcro. much better and vibration dampening!

I have not replaced any of the stock fans in my case. They all come out exactly as Bamavoo described. Grab the whole thing and pull towards you while twisting slightly. Getting them out is easy compared to getting them back in. There's a small fifth tab in the upper corner; that is what actually holds the fan in place. It's a *&!#$! getting it back in.

Why are you replacing any of them? They are excellent fans. 3 speeds gets you anything you want from quiet, decent cooling to loud-ish windtunnel cooling.

I've got some Scythe Slipstreams' on the way.
I'll replace the fan in my Tuniq Tower first (assuming I don't get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283) & see what it sounds like.
Then I guess i'll put the Fan Mate on my VF700 so I can adjust it down (unless Speed Fan will do it).
Then i'll go from there. :)

I replaced all my fans and added an extra Late Yoon. Mine sounds like a wind tunnel, even with the fan on my Tuniq turned way down. I think the older speed fan had problems with my motherboad, but I am going to try the beta to see if it will let me adjust speeds.

Even the Late's are too loud for me :(

Ain't nothin wrong with duct tape! If a hammer can't fix it, duct tape will :) Seriously though, I have cables taped on the back side of my mobo tray, and also on the side like th OP.
