I'm picking up a 21" DELL Sony tube crt monitor later on today - paying a high $30 bucks for it and wanted to know if any one had experience with this monitor - i'm thinking about going back to CRT gaming (using a Gateway 22" LCD right now)

Let me know if you've used this thing and likes/dislikes of it

thanks

Probably for higher resolutions, better colors/blacks, faster response times, and overall better quality w/o the hassle of dead pixels, banding, or backlight bleeding etc.

On a side note, I've been using the p1130 for the past 3 years and I LOVE it. It's one of the higher quality 21" tubes trinitron produced. I picked up my 2nd one yesterday off craigslist for $90, so you are getting an absolute STEAL. 1600x1200 @ 85hz = <3

Thanks for the info - I have a decent 20" tube (older IBM sony tube) and if this looks nicer its gonna rock

I love craigslist some times - guy moving out of college and needed to sell fast - his loss my gain!

Which is it: "high" or "cheap"?

Allow me to answer: the former if it breaks anytime soon and the latter if not.

Alas, CRT's must be considered disposable these days due to exhorbitant repair and/or shipping costs. The good news is a replacement can prolly be sourced but the general supply is finite and continues to age and degrade with use.

Anyhoo, it should be ideal just for PC games. Enjoy! :)

Yea its a sad world atm :( all the CRT's are dieing off slowly, its hit or miss how long buying a used one will last, but hopefully long enough until the next technology becomes standard, SED anyone?

sharpness is bad, especially for high res+ high refresh rate. Everything seems too white. Geometry sucked too. It is huge but not viewing-wise. Mine P260 did me favor and it blew itself by falling from the desk to the floor and causing lil earthquake.

IMO you made the mistake. Soon you'll figure that 16:10 beats 4:3.

ended up getting the thing for $20 off the guy (he didn't have change) and it has some color issues but I almost have them calibrated out now its not as bright as my LCD (wasn't expecting it to be) but I really don't see any lack of sharpness the above described and I'm running it at 16*12 at 85hz

Still need to run some more benchies and play on it still but 3Dmark05 in all its glory looked good with 16xAA and 16xAF - no ghosting and zero banding - if I don't like it I'm out $20 and I'm sure I can sell it for that much

It's a pretty nice tube. The P1130 is a very abundant monitor these days. I guess that alot of businesses are selling them off to upgrade. Thats why they're always on ebay and other sites like azatek.com and accurate.com. Just beware of the poor black level on some I have seen. Its adjustable, though, either through the menu or with a slight modification. I don't see why it would be any better or worse than other trinitrons. They're all pretty nice. Thats all I can say about it I guess. I don't own one but my friend got one used like you did and it looks good. You can't beat that price. Buy it.
The LCD zealots need to shut up, seriously.

Yeah. I have this monitor. Absolutely love it. Great picture quality, high refresh rate, and dual-input (a must for me). Would still be using it for my primary gaming rig except I picked a Samsung 225bw widescreen a few months ago. The only knock I'd give it is that it's a heavy sonnuvabitch - about 68+ lbs and is not easy to lug around.

We had a bunch of P1110 and then P1130 screens at work. The P1130 always seemed like it was a smaller 21" than the P1110, maybe closer to a 20", or maybe it was because of the black cabinet. The picture is pretty much what you would expect from a mid-range Sony tube - better than most, but not quite as nice as a similarly priced NEC CRT. I am guessing that the tube is the same as those found in Sony's own "e" series CRTs. You certainly got a nice screen for $30 considering I sold a 4 year old 19" CPD-E400 for $40 just a few months ago.

I had a P1110 21" trinitron some time back. I ended up selling it because it was simply too freaking bog to keep anymore. However, it was rock solid!
