the speeds of these CPU's is increasing really fast. (which is good for consumers.

2 years ago we had the 266-400. (it took many years to get to these speeds too). Yet in this last year we have gone all the way up to a GHz!. More then double what was accomplished since AMD/Intel were able to make up to that point.

In 2 more years were gonna have 5GHz... its gonna be insane. Yet games still wont run smooth cause were gonna be unhappy with a 10240x7680 resolution at 128 bit color at 350 FPS!

geez... I'd love a computer like that :)

Intel's p3s are faster than a tbird, but they can't keep up in a Mhz battle without shrinking to .13 micron. It's just like a G4, sure it's faster Mhz/Mhz, but it doesn't matter if the other side has a 500Mhz advantage.

I'm skeptical - especially about the DDR-SDRAM support. Doens't Intel have some sort of contract with RAMBUS stipulating that Intel can't make DDR chipsets?

A 0.13 COPPERmine would be cool though!

obeseotron, P3 is not faster that Tbird clock for clock. They are more or less even with Tbird having a slight edge in some benchmarks. Unless you are playing Quake 3 perhaps or running SSE optimized programs.

Obeceotron: you are absolutely incorrect...

About the p3 w/ copper + .13um, this is really "fishy" because Intel even admitted that they will not be switching to copper process until late 2001. They also said that they do not need to because of their "advanced" Al process. Also, Intel still doesent have any FABs ready for a .13um process (if im wrong please inform me). All of this (getting ready for .13 and developing a copper process) will take a very long time, longer than perhaps the p3 will be on the market... who knows tho, maybe they will pull a fast one on us. If it is true, then i have to wonder about their p4 performance. Why would they still shring/copper the p3 if p4 is out. Surley they can pull a Cellery-type CPU w/ a p4 core... who knows...

Yeah ya never know what the yield might be on that. Could be real low and end up pretty expensive.

350fps naw...
I think there is a limit...
resolution does make a big difference, 2000x2000 would be nice,
but you cant really even tell much if any difference between 24 and 32bit color,
and as far as fps goes, once u get about 80fps u can't even tell the difference between anything after that really...
