Some months ago, I and another member compared notes, observing that our SLI configurations weren't running at their low-power P8 state. Instead, the cards would run the cores and memory at a higher speed, show 25% power consumption and temperature at or around 50C.

I discovered that the cards would perform properly after disabling then re-enabling SLI, but rebooting the system would result in the same behavior.

I uninstalled Afterburner and reinstalled the NVidia drivers as a "clean" install. that seemed to get rid of the problem, but we may never have actually discovered the root cause of it.

Now we come around to updating the NVidia drivers. Suddenly, the power bug "is back." I think I had uninstalled GeForce Experience when I fixed the problem the first time.

This time, uninstalling "Experience" didn't seem to fix anything. (And -- who really needs it?!) I think the problem disappeared when I chose to DISABLE SLI before doing another clean installation. I left "Experience" uninstalled.

Is that the proper way to update drivers for an SLI configuration? Disable SLI-mode first, then install the drivers? And re-enable SLI afterward?

Also, I note that "Experience" will find games on your machine and "optimize" them. But apparently, it doesn't allow any "optimization" for SLI. Is that correct?

It seems my systems have been consistently better-behaved for not using GeForce Experience.

Thoughts? Comments?

The 780s at default? - no OC?

What Vcore? - both?

nVidia Control Panel shows SLI?

Maybe a 850W power supply is needed.
