P series like P8600 vs T series like T9550 question

just to be clear, the T series doesnt have as good of idling current draw as the P series?

so, not just the fact that the T series draws more wattage, it also cant sit still like a P series can?

thats what intels info sheets indicate anyway.. i just want to make sure. if thats the case, i think a P series is just better for daily laptop use.
 
Yes. The rated voltage is lower, the enabled cache is smaller, and the clock speed is a bit lower.
 
i know about that. what i am asking about is c states. intels website lists the T series as NOT having c states, where the P series does.

is this true? if it is, it would mean the T series has considerably lower battery life, on top of the fact it draws more juice while working on stuff.

It's going to draw more either way, though, so that's really moot, and day to tasks aren't going to warrant double the L2, either.

As far as c-states, ark.intel.com is in some way wrong. Most likely, the, "idle states," means something very specific, like maybe C3 or C4E or maybe it's only, "yes," if the CPU supports all c-states available to that processor core. You're not going to find a processor not supporting c-states.

<- remembers back when it was cool that NT 4 could use C1 and idle at lower temps than other contemporary OSes
 
thanks. im sure youre right in that intel probably just didnt list it right on their web page. as vague as it is, who know who made that page up.

moot point for me now though, i just scored an 8440p elitebook for $190! all it needs is hdd and ac adapter. core i5, so i got me 4 threads of computing now 🙂 and 3MB cache, and it even comes with 4GB of ram.

its also LED and 1440x900 resolution, which is nice.
