P pro matched sets do they have to be the same

In an ideal environment yes, but in reality no.

The matched sets were more for mission critical setups where reliability and compatibility were key, for a home user neither is quite as important.

I have a dual P2 setup using one 333 and one 400 chip. Works fine at 333.

Me too. Fun, cheap, no worries when you go too far and damage stuff, and gives you full appreciation for what the modern BIOS is doing for you with a check of a button. In the past few years I've had the most fun experimenting w/ tualerons setups and super socket7 stuff.
