From Smiles to Terror: A Moment in Syria

At left, Ghazal, 4, poses for the photographer along a street near the Syrian Arab Red Crescent center in the Douma neighborhood of Damascus, minutes before what activists said was a shelling by forces of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on May 6, 2015. At right, Ghazal runs from the explosion with her sister Judy, 7, who was carrying an 8-month-old named Suhair. #

The conflict in Yemen has killed more than 1,400 people — many of them civilians — since March 19, according to the UN. The country of some 25 million people has endured shortages of food, water, medicine, and electricity as a result of a Saudi-led blockade. Hani Mohammed/AP

We still tend to use British spellings for the most part: colour, centre, defence, offence, counselling.
I use British spellings for theatre and behaviour, no matter how much my spellcheck angrily underlines those words.

Counselling, though, is just plain silly.

While we're on the topic.

Cintia Alves, 24, holds her newborn daughter on their shared bed inside the nursery at the Bangu Penitentiary Complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 13, 2015. The prison allows inmate’s babies to live with them at the nursery for six months, allowing mothers to breast feed their newborns. The women say they dread the day when, what they call "the disconnection,” happens. #
