Just a simple poll. There is no in-between, choose the one you lean closest to. I'd just like to get an idea of where this sub-forum stands.

Don't feel like choosing between two bad options. I think this is going to be my attitude in the next election too.

Simply choose the one you lean more towards. Every political party has their good and bad qualities.

Neither. I'm a registered Democrat in a Democratic NYC town to maximize my primary votes. Otherwise I don't believe in political parties, or two families of the same mob.

Independent is strangely missing from the poll, so I'll choose to not vote.

I come from a Republican background, so I still more closely identify with them but this will be the second presidential election in a row where I vote third party in protest.

I'm a registered Democrat, but consider myself to be a more of an independent these days. I dont walk in lockstep with any one party.

If you changed the poll to "which party are you more likely to vote for" folks would have less wiggle room claiming to be independent.

Edit: Actually your poll is fine, clearly most "independent" folks here lean more one way than the other.

I would consider myself an independent liberal. As a result I would say that the Democratic party is closer to my views than the Republicans. I am not registered as a member of either party so far as I know. When I registered to vote when I was younger and was ignorant of politics I would have called myself a Republicans because my parents are. Then I started paying attention and decided that I could not in good conscience ever vote Republican.

I chose Democrat. I'm not officially registered as one as I consider myself independent , but the Republican party has gone so far to the right that I can barely see them over the horizon anymore... If the poll is between two options, then I am left with only one viable choice despite the many disagreements that I have with the Democratic party.

Same here, I generally vote Libertarian unless I really despise or fear the Democrat candidate, but I'm a registered Republican and usually vote for them for House and Senate. It's not who I want to vote for, it's whom I want to vote against, and usually that's both parties pretty equally. I used to be a registered Democrat until the abomination of the Carter Presidency. Had Santorum gotten the Pubby nod I'd have to change my registration back for the same reason.

On the other hand, I really like Mitt Romney. This will be the first election since Reagan <cue choir> that my primary pick got the nod, so this time I'll have to vote Pubby.

Registered Republican since 1996 dreaming of another Eisenhower.

Socially I'm a libertarian.

Both parties today are complete garbage sending us into a debt death spiral and dog eat dog cultural abyss.

As much as I hate what the Democrats are doing currently, I simply loath the Republican party. So, for now, if I have to identify with one party it's the D's.
