P-III-450 vs. Celeron 600-733

Performancewise which one is better ?

will such cpu handle divx/dvd decoding (with 128 mb RAM) ?

The Celerons will be much better than the PIII 450. I think the PIII 450 is still running the deschutes core, meaning it is like the PII and has the lvl2 cache running at 1/2 the cpu speed. The Celeron 2's are celermine's... meaning they are using the coppermine core. Also the Celeron 566 and 600 are excelent overclockres.... most hitting 850 or 900 easily.

Nope only p2's had deshutes cores. the slot1 .25 micron p3's have katmai cores.

the 450 is the slowest P3 and the oldest so it may be argueable, now you say FC-PGA p3 500 vs celeron II 600-733, and i'd say go for the p3...

Okay, well the Deschutes is about the same as the Katmai core because it has the lvl2 cache @ 1/2 while the CuMine's have the full speed lvl2 cache.

The 100fsb of the P!!! will make it better for heavy tasks. The P!!!-450 at 600mHz won't be near as nice as a Celeron-600 at 900mHz, but it will be pretty decent.

How much are PIII 533 B or EB running? That'd get you the 133 MHz FSB for the larger bandwith.

my experiance with a PIII 450 vs celeron 633 was pretty much a draw

I'm averaging 5.6 FPS with the following setting

640 * 480(I recommand this resolution if you want TV-Out later)
29.97 Output frame rate
MMX iDTC
Deinterlace Video
Blend instead of interpolate
HQ Biqubic filtering
No Crop, No letter Boxing, Keep Ratio
MPEG Layer-3 256K-bit/sec
Divx low motion 1800 KiloBits/sec

My 366(550) Celeron gets about 3.5 FPS
My 300A(450) Celeron got about 2.9 FPS
so the 850 MHZ was a good boost.
