I have a BG7 and a P4 1.8A....
yesterday I booted up the machine and it gotten as far as showing the win XP logo screen but it never posted into windows..just hung there...i clear the cmos reset it to default a couple of times and rebooted...got this similar error "cpu not workable or softmenu was changed"

is my cpu fried or premanently damaged somehow? I was having some problems with the board giving me low voltage on the 3.3V line..it came in at 3.14V

If u have a damaged cpu, what would be the behavior? a friend told me that you couldn't even post.

if my cpu was damaged, could i have posted into the bios? my vcore setting was at 1.55V at the time..temp was idling at 48C and max at 60C...the bios has a shut down temp set at 65C

BTW my vcore during Oc testing only went up to 1.65V...for 10 minutes or so...then i reset it to 1.55V because the temp was too hot..the system set to shut down at 65C and it did once but then it rebooted into 1.55V setting fine

you can post with a fried cpu sometimes.

is you system still running? still overclocking? still stable?

sounds like you just experienced a cold boot and need more vcore.

are you testin with prime95?

your temps are way too high too.

no...i'm not OCing or anything...i packed up the board and awaiting the arrival of the p4b533-v

i don't need anymore coldboot because i reset it to default speed...and it still gave me that cpu not workable error message...

i just discovered something though...my HP cdrw is not working...i think it die...i hooked it up to an old p3v4x mb and the lights on the cdrw didn't come on and i pressed the open button, the drive would not respod...worse...it would hang the BIOS..the system froze and i had to reboot...
as soon as i remove the cdrw from the ide channel...the p3v4x mb would post and i can get into the bios...if the cdrw was the primary slave...then i can post into the bios ...but the p3v4x bios would not recognize it...

i guess my cpu problem may be caused by this dead cdrw...but my BG7 install cd is in there....lol...how do i get it out?

there should be a small hole - insert a paper clip and push.

if not - pry it open carefully. (screwdriver)
once it starts to open it will be easier.
