Through the fan vent at the top. Smelled smoke. And now the computer won't turn on. :(

What a day.

Did the exact same thing in 2009. That's when I replaced my AM2 mobo/X2 6400+ with an AM3/Phenom II X4 955. Think it might be time to spill another cup of water down the blow hole...

They really prefer Brawndo. It mutilates their thirst before they have time to short out.

You should have tried to save your computer instead of running to your laptop/phone/tablet to post about it.

Tried. Again. And again. And again... :(

I keep hitting the power button, and nothing's happening. Cracked open the case and there was water on the ps, motherboard, and vid card. Not sure where the culprit lies.

One thing you never do is try to turn it back on after spilling something on it.

Though if as soon as the water hit and you smelled/saw smoke ya, you're probably screwed. You should always wait until completely dry (we're not talking an hour here lol) before attempting to turn back on.

It was the wife that spilled it (although she swears she didn't) and tried to turn it back on. She called me in there saying it smelled funny.

A couple of years back had a Dell SFF that was sitting flat, it had vent on the top. A pop got knocked over and some made it inside. It caused it to shutoff and I thought it might have fried the board. I opened it up and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and then let it dry and it booted back up no problem. I took the time to reseat the TIM and clean out the HSF while I was at it so it actually probably was a bit better than before. Its been running fine ever since.

unplug everything, take it down to absolute bare bones, air dry a day or two (possibly see if you can visually see any burn spots). if it turns on great, gradually put stuff back in, if not its either the mobo or power supply.

standard procedure... or do what i would do and use this mishap as en excuse to upgrade.

My friends have done this a couple times. I always worry about it any time I see a case designed with a monster fan on top.

That's why my computer is off to the side of my desk, on a rack. It used to be under the desk until I realized that the blowhole fan was right under the hole in my desk where phone cables and whatnot are supposed to come up.

Like someone else said, take it apart and air dry everything, then put it back together. I am going to guess that the problem is the power supply, which is pretty easily replaceable.

You probably shouldn't have done that.
