There is a cleaning product called Oxi-Clean and according to their informercial, it is great at removing all kinds of stains. A few years back, it was always on late night TV informercial. Now, you can get them at Wal Mart, Home Depot, Fred Meyer and such.

Is this stuff any good for getting stain out of clothes?

A local TV station did a story about Oxi-clean and showed it is effective in getting out stains on surfaces but bleach works better with clothes.

I've also done my own testing with Oxi-clean it's not that great with clothes.

It works great. Any stain that I have ever had on my clothes, from blood to red wine or greasy sauces have come out. I put a scoop or two in when I do my whites, and it works great.

The key for getting stains out is to let them soak in a tub of a couple gallons of water and some oxyclean. I had a pair of shorts that had sap on them after I sat on some wood, and I threw the shorts in and let them soak for a couple of days and they came out perfect. Just did the same with a different pair of shorts and some redwine, and you can't tell where it was.

The Dancing Peacock - I didn't soak the clothes in oxi-clean and water beforehand. That would probably make a difference.

This stuff is awesome for everything! getting off carpet stains, clothing stains, just for washing....everything. This is one thing that really does work. It also is great for cleaning bathrooms and kitchens too! ;)

Label me a Oxi-Clean fanboy!

I've seen out get blood out of a off white seatshirt that had been stained for many many hours. We did soak the sweater for a couple hours though.

But.. what really hooked me was when my roommates and I (3 college guys - you imagine how dirty the bathrooms and kitchen were) moved out of our apartment. Nothing I tried before could clean the stove top easily (previously I'd be there with a scouring pad for hours - Comet, 409, whatever). With Oxi-Clean, it came off relatively easy. Worked for the oven as well. Shower, toilets.. all cleaned using Oxi-Clean. If it wasn't for Oxi-Clean, we would not have gotten much of our deposit back. Those are the things I would use Oxi-Clean on as I feel it is most effective for those. It can do carpets but I think other things are easier and maybe more effective (Spot Shot, Folex).

One thing should be noted (for those that have never seen it) is that it comes as a powder and it works because (I think) of the release of gas when mixed with water (similar to how many carpet cleaners work). So this isn't an "instant" cleaner like bleach. Not really a wipe on/wipe off thing... more of a scrub on/soak/scrub off thing from my experience. Requires a little bit more elbow grease but gets out the things that others can't with the same amount of elbow grease.

Two thumbs up.

Oh yeah. My one con: smells kinda funny when used in high quantities, probably from whatever gas is released. I don't think there are any warnings about it being poisonous or dangerous, and I've not suffered ill effects, but it definitely isn't perfumed.

What are you freaks doing with blood all over you?
Arcane and the roommates probably got too carried away with the ritual sacrifices in their apartment. Geez, the stove too!?!? :D

Just be warned that you'll use more than you'd think you use to get a certain job done. I found myself using 1.5x of the prescribed amount to get things done quickly, but it's good stuff.

I think I'll get some

Do you have to dump lots of it in water to clean clothes or just a little bit will do? The local stores carry them in jug and a bucket. I'll choose which one to get depending on how much it takes per use.

The directions are on the Oxi-Clean tub.

CostCo, Walmart and Fred Meyer's seem to have the best price.

it works pretty good but you need to follow the directions. i used to just dump a capful in the washer while it was filling up with my clothes in it, until i started to notice splotches on my clothes. i traced it to the oxy clean and then read the directions. i was using the right amount but not letting it dissolve, prior to putting my clothes in. once i started using it as directed it worked fine.

One more question. Is oxi-clean just like bleach or is it safe to use on colored items to remove stain?

Stuff works great. Did wonder for the tub and tile. It even took all the soap scum off of the chrome knobs and such.
