This sucks. I'm attempting to do a Couch to 5K program and it looks like I may have to visit a podiatrist about my exceptionally flat feet. Sore, achy muscles I can handle...but my ankles & knees have me in agony. I got a good pair of shoes with decent cushioning, lateral stability (I over pronate b/c my feet have no arches), and good "arch support" but apparently that's still not good enough. :(

No real point, just whining.

"How's the podiatry practice, Phil?"

Well, for any other flat feet people...talk to your podiatrist before trying to begin a running program.

Well, hit the podiatrists office yesterday...first thing out of his mouth "Wow, those are some impressively flat feet!". He's got my feet taped into a configuration they've never been before. I'm walking more along the outside edge of my feet (which is making them more sore), shot my feet full of cortizone, and gave me a presription for steroids where the side affects sound much worse than foot & leg pain (Methylprednisolone 4mg). I'm supposed to continue to try to run (how, I have no idea) and I go back in a week for a follow-up and to talk about possible long term solutions (orthotics).

My wife has flat feet and decided to try these about three years ago. Made a tremendous difference and she uses them every day no matter what shoes she's wearing.

I'll keep those in mind. Thanks kranky. For now, though, I'll follow through with the doctor's current regimen...even if plastic bags on my feet make showering an adventure. :)

Nah, I think it's due to the fact that I've never had arches in my feet. I did alot of backpacking when I was younger but my boots always had more support than the running shoes I'm using. I've never been a "runner".

I hate my flat feet. I use new balance arch supports, seems to work fairly well... but no mater what I try when I run, it seems to not work for me. My feet like to fall asleep.. and they start hurt enough for me to stop trying.. heh
