Do you have 2 dog houses or did you just build one big one?
I have never had 2 dogs, just one at a time.

We are moving to an area where you need 2 dogs. I guess the mountian lions and bears will attack one dog but they leave 2 alone.
They will be outside dogs so they need a good dog house. But I am not sure if they'd rather be together or apart?

It might depend on the dogs.. I had a couple before who were quite bonded & liked to be together close-by, but the 2 now prefer some distance, when they are boarded they are happier in seperate pens.

may depend on the dogs but it is generally better to keep the dogs seperated. even if they are crated indoors it is best to have 2 crates.

with puppies it is easier to train/be the Alpha if the pups are seperated so they bond more to you than each other.

2 yellow labs that are litter mates. They live in the house but we also have about 1/2 acre backyard that is fenced for them.

They are crate trained, and sleep in seperate crates, and they each treat their crate as their place of comfort and will often go in their crate during the day to take a nap.

how about a 2 story, one can take the top level and the other the ground floor

That's an interesting concept. I guess the alpha would be on top.
