Owners of Pentium 6XX series

Just out of curiosity, anyone out there with the Pentium 6xx series, what are your overclocking results? Reviews say they generally run cooler than the 5xx, so I'm wondering what kind of results people are getting.

Sentential has one running at 4ghz on air.

Cnet did a review of some dual cores, Falcon NW sent one (dual core) at 3.6ghz on air. I think the 6xx, 8xx OC very nicely.

Does the 6xx take a big hit if you don't run the memory at 1:1? I know my old 2.26 takes a bit of a hit when I overclock and I don't keep mem at a 1:1 ratio to the FSB.

From what I can tell it takes almost no hit from running asynch.

As mentioned above I am indeed over 4ghz. I am currentally running 4.13 @ 1.45v or so.

And it flies! Check out his SuperPI times. They are as fast or faster than ANY Athlon system here.

p4 630 @3.01 ghz! Behold the power of overclocking!!!!!!
1024 mb ddr 400
x800xl
405/1016
catalyst 5.3
120gb hdd
80gb hdd
Ide connection

Simply fabulous!

P4's are more responsive to bandwidth then A64's....The best thing would be to keep it matched, but if you cant what are we really talking about?? A few percentages points??? I believe that series is multiplier unlocked so you can just raise the multiplier and keep the fsb matched with the ram. That way the max theroretical bandwidth of the cpu is fed that amount by the ram. If you raise the fsb up you increase the throughput of the cpu, but if ram doesn't match it then you are not utilizing it. If you raised the ram speed over the fsb (used to see ram dividers that raised ram speed with Athlons) then the ram is producing more bandiwdth then the cpu can use...

Nice overclock! Are you running stock hsf or using something else?

Hell no LOL.... That would be nice but this is STILL a prescott. The sob tore right through my XP90. If you are looking for 4ghz+ you must use either water-cooling or an XP120 like I am. Cpt Caveman and I are using the same cooling:

Delta 3 bladed SHE (120mm)
Thermalright XP120 (with the LGA775 bracket)

___________

Yes Duvie you are right. Because of EIST 6xx are capable of their highest multiplier down to a minimum of 14X, however be warned that most mobos cannot change the multiplier in the BIOS quite yet. Only the i925, i925XE and i915 are able to do so.

On my AS8 my 640 appears locked in the BIOS and in CPUz yet I can change the multi manually with the EIST tool. 😕

I want to get a 650 to OC but the price is simply too retarded.

Even if i crank out an extra 500mhz the performance isnt worth $400.

Whoa dude what sorta radical cooling are you using?
LOL now that's what I call hilarious

I can hear your computer from here...Deltas are so friggin' loud...I had a clawhammer running at 10x250 for a while, it took 5 tornados (1 HSFU, 4 case) to keep the temps somewhat normal. Had 18C ambeints though. That was nice. 😉

The triple-blades are much quieter and less annoying than the other versions. A fan controller also helps.
