Had a sharing problems on one drive.
Who would be the correct Owner of win 7 hard drives and partitions in permissions.
Administrators
System
Name-PC\Administrators
TrustedInstaller
Creator

Does the Owner have effect on sharing on a local network.
I set the Owner from Creator to Administrators.
Edited security to [everyone] to correct a sharing problem.

What are you trying to share?

You can not share the whole drive you have to share folders.

Only need to be able to read or change files from my 2 other PCs.
I could only access 2 out of 6 partitions on 2 drives in the Vista PC.
Want to store pictures and backups from 2PCs to a 3rd PC.
At one time all PCs belonged to the same windows workgroup and I never had a problem.
At present I try not to use HomeGroup or public folders etc.

AFAIK that's never been true with Windows. And IIRC they're even still shared by default with the pseudo-hidden shares that end with a dollar sign.

The old Microsoft "Administrative Share" of local volumes. (or just plain-old hidden shares, too)

According to Wikipedia, by default, Vista and Win7 prevent local accounts from accessing administrative shares through the network. But that can be changed via the Registry.

john3850 HomeGroup works only between network computers that run Win7.

I usualy open a folder name 0MyDoc or zMyDoc. The 0 or z puts it at the beginning of the sorting or the end so it is easy to get to them.

Under it I build my own Doc, Pic, pdf, mp3, mpg, etc. subfolders.

I set the security and permission of the zFolder to every one and the permission to the subfolders as I deem needed.

This way I am in total control of the sharing and does not touch the OS application at, space at all.

Because (Everyone) was not listed as group or user name I never got some of the partitions share folder to share.
Never knew you could type in Everyone to a share a partition as a folder.
I am learning it is simplier to only use the folders I need to share rather then the whole partition.

I usualy open a folder name 0MyDoc.
I set the security and permission of the zFolder to every one and the permission to the subfolders as I deem needed.(souds much simplier)

Thanks everyone
