sell both of them and get a 89
I really wish people would quit saying this on these forums. Many (probably most) of us inquiring are college students.
While your advice is true and logical.. what is not so true and logical is that most universitys do NOT allow TI89s on finals, or sometimes interim tests.
So while a TI89 might be grand, I can't have one. Maybe if I need a calculator after school. But for students, a 83 or 86 makes more sense.
I am a junior, but I did a search and found a freshman who hadnt even gone to school yet asking for advice on what calculator to get. People convinced him to get a TI89, when what he needed convinced of first was to double check with his school, and even some math professors to see if that is OK on his tests..
So keep that in mind before vomiting the TI89 all over. Its great, yes. All expensive calculators are.
But its no good for a student to get dependant on it and then not able to use it at all on tests.
That leaves the 83 and 86 as the only options without knowing if the university allows for 89s.. and any credible university won't.
