OWC Announces OS X/PC Bootable PCIe SSD Card

Nice to know it's 2010 in Mac Pro land at last.

But it is worth bearing in mind as - and as usual in 'pro' Mac-land we only get one viable second-rate option - I'd given up waiting for the Z-Drives to get Mac compatibility.

Cool. I wouldn't have guessed that the PCIe bus was so much faster than the fastest SATA bus, but that makes sense. Makes me wonder, why doesn't someone just develop a direct PCIe bus just for SSD drives rather than nickel and dime it with much slower SATA?

It already exists. Well, I guess it doesn't for the Apple-addled as it's only available for PC's and as such they'll be actively ignoring it, but solutions in that area are pretty plentiful - just not for OS X.

I'd like something similar since whenever I turn to the Pro's it's like wading in treacle even for the relatively little / trivial tasks (that befits OS X) that I do on the Macs these days, and there are also limited options beyond this card but even they're just way too kludgy.

Maybe a Thunderbolted Pro will cure all this and render such solutions unnecessary (though I kind of doubt it). Maybe I'll have to replace all my Pros again before then saying "Right, I'm going to run these into the ground before bugging out of OS X". We'll see.
