pussy.

after having one of those done as a kid, i started to deal with it myself. either 2 ibuprofen or 2 shots of liquor and a quick warm shower to soften the nail and its easy to deal with

hell, with a warm shower its easy to deal with before it gets really nasty.

i was beyond that stage.

I tried cutting the fucker out myself... but it was too far gone. I was basically relieving the pressure, lots and lots of puss. The foot dr was impressed with my effort, and was surprised i wanted to watch him do the "permenant fix" procedure.

It was cooool , but now its ouchies!

oh ive had em bad and taken em out, it sucked. but its such a bitch to have your toe sliced open, the bandages, the antibiotics, pain relief. meh

its been 4 or 5 years since i let one get that bad, usually if you dont trim your toenails too short you wont get them

I had a nasty one when I was 17, sounds pretty similar to yours Sea Moose. Had to have the toe sliced open etc. And yeah it sucks when the pain killers wear off. Take some ibuprofen and paracetamol, they're both really effective and safe to use together.

This is why I don't have nail beds on my two big toes anymore. Never have to worry about ingrown toenails again.

Bah to pain pills. My only issues was the blood kept getting in the way. How am I supposed to dig out the ingrown nail and cut it out if I can't see the damn thing. Stupid body. Now if I had a third hand to dab the blood while the pick held the ingrown nail dug out and exposed while the remaining hand had the tiny scissors......

This seems like a good time to bring up my toenail story. Back in my college days, I didn't have enough money to afford snowboard boots so I borrowed a friends. I had used them before and they were fine. Well this time I had neglected to cut the nail on my big toe and it was a bit long. Fast forward to a half way through the day at the mountain when I started to feel a bit of pain/pressure on my toe. I ignored it like a dumb ass.

Well when I got back it seemed a little swollen but felt OK so I let it go for a day or so. Finally after it got a little more swollen, I decided to pull up on the nail. Puss burst from under the nail as it pulled away from my toe leaving a gaping blood red underside. My roommate just about vomited before saying "holy shit, that's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Let me get a picture." I wish I had the picture for showing but I'm at work. If anyone is interested in seeing the "toe of doom" as it was dubbed, I'll post it later. :D

I've had the toenail removed on my left big toe twice now. The second time I had it done it was permanent and it was actually the more painful time.

My toenails were a little long one time when I was rollerskating and I ran into a wall, big toe first. It got pretty nasty after a few days and I ended up pulling the toenail off with a pair of pliers.

When I had an ingrown toenail, I just went into a hot shower, softened up the nail and cut it out using a scalpel. Problem solved. Didn't have to have my toe sliced either.

I've had ingrown toenails on and off again on both of my big toes since I was 16. First one (right foot) I had to go in to a Naval Hospital and the doc had a corpsman rip it out...now that fucking hurt. Same thing with second one (L & R). Third one I got done privately (L&R again) but they took out the side nail beds on both sides of both toes. Since then the only one I've had to deal with is R foot R side of big toe, it just won't go away. Usually just burn 2 sets of tweezers, an exacto, and a pair of nail scissors. Pull back the skin and then grap and yank. Bleed like a stuck pig but funnily enough it doesn't hurt. Now I'm all good but my right big toe is permanently deformed. It looks like there's a tumor on the side of it...will take a photo when I get home.

EDIT: And I'm positive that the nail on my right toe has stopped growing...completely.

Damn, that sounds fun.

What causes this sort of thing? The worst I've ever had was an ingrown hair, and it was pretty straightforward to remove it - just pull and enjoy the hurt.

"Intelligent" design my ass, this model is a few revisions short of being ready for beta testing. :p

Toenail grows wide, into the site of the cuticle. With enough curvature, and if there's a sharp edge, it'll cut into the skin and grow under it. becomes a wound that really never heals cause you put pressure on that side all the time. Hurts like a bitch.

I had one removed without any working anesthetic. They were busy with sick kids. They made up for it by giving me way, way too much oxycodone.
