Overweight passengers

Earlier, police said the boat's operator, Shoreline Cruises, could face a fine of $25 to $100 for failing to have a second crew member on board to aid the 74-year-old captain, Richard Paris. A state inspector determined in May the boat needed two crew members.

That's cheaper than one NYC parking ticket! :Q

Oh noes, not a $100 fine

EDIT:
D@MN

Alright, yeah it's a "tragedy" and all that BS, but how exactly would having another crew member on board have made the outcome any different? Maybe a few less people would have died, but it would still be the same result.

You guys really are tasteless.

What if your mother (or shall I say grandmother) was on that boat and died?

You really should be ashamed at yourselves!

The media just needs someone to blame.

All I have to say is .... You have to die sometime-

Granted This is not the most graceful way of going, but I'd much rather be on a boat with NON-obese people than a boat full of lard. And yeah, my grandma is Overweight.

Choices in life have consequences, it is a fact of life.

My grand parents all dead. Cause of death, another stupid decision they made in life, smoking to cause lung cancer. All 4 of them dead because of that. Least they weren't over weight.. well one was but that wasn't the cause of death.

Parents aren't fat either. So yah, I can, will, and do make fun of fat people. It's a conscious choice to be fat or not be fat with some very very very rare medical conditions not taken into considerations where it's not longer conscious. Like people with PWS, which is a genetic disease that afflicts one in about 85,000 people (so it's fairly rare) where they have a missing genetic material which causes hunger to stop. If that's gone, they are hungry all the time, even while stuffing their faces. But if ou try to tell me all the people on that boat were afflicted by that, LOL.

Oh well, we all die, all that matters is how we go out. I don't want to go out drowning from my own fat thank you very much. It wouldn't do well on my obituary either.

And it's a sensationalization of the fact that officials are simply thinking that 150lbs may no longer be a good average when calculating capacity.

bwahahahah....

<breath>

bwahahhahahaa

I frequently close the elevetor door when i see a fattie coming. Weight limit ma'am, sorry.

I skimmed the article and didn't see what I was looking for. Were the passengers overweight in this case?

Did anyone read the friggin article?

Investigators believe a combination of factors could have contributed to the Ethan Allen tragedy, including a large wake created by another boat, a sudden shift of passengers' weight on the boat's bench-style seats, and the overall weight of the passengers.

The investigation is not complete yet. Before you blame these victims for their own deaths, how bout we get ALL the facts?

Unless you're only interested in bashing 'fatties' or whoever else is handy at the time..

guess you didn't read the article. The passengers' weight is listed as a possible cause. Fatties slid over to one side and flipped the boat.

While its tragic, people have to deal with the consequences of their poor habits/lifestyle.

Smokers were first, you're next fatties.

Yeah, but what if the elevator cable snaps, and you start to fall 5 stories, with no fatty to cushion your fall?

Wasn't there an aircraft accident in the last year or so attributed to something similar? ie. bad CG due to the average weight of the passengers being higher then the models account for?
