I'm a sophomore undergrad, and I've got a interview a week from today from a prestigious investment bank for a spring internship in the Securities division. From what I've heard, the questions are mostly fit-based, since at the sophomore-level, finance classes generally haven't been taken by most students yet. That said, I'd like to be a little more comfortable with current market trends just to avoid embarrassing myself next week. Don't have the time to read an entire book about securities, but if anyone has any good articles explaining recent trends, I'd really appreciate it.

Whenever a President of These United States (applies to any President, not just the current one) opens his mouth concerning the economy the stock market drops. It was painfully obvious with the last one and this one seems to have the same touch. It doesn't seem to matter much what a President says, only that he said something.

The only way to get a sense of trends is to read the business section of the NY Times and most of the WSJ and Financial Times every day. Get reading, son.

Read WSJ or The Economist daily.

Not really sure what you are looking for. Something that is a "news" item is that congress is having a shit fit about the Federal Reserve and wants the GAO to start to have oversight over the Fed, which would essentially make them no longer independent. That can have some very interesting ramifications if that pans out.
