i think im going to get a seasonic s12 500 or 700w

im considering the 700w for future sli and stuff and i dont mind paying the extra for the 700w

let say my pc had a 420w load untill i used sli, electric bill should be the same right?

would both equily efficent one just has a higher limit or am i going to be sucking up exrta juse if its oversized?

I would think efficiency of the power supply would be the detrmining factor. It will only use what the computer needs but if it wastes a lot of energy doing so then your bill will be higher.

in other words.

a 400 watt psu
and a 700 watt psu
and a 1000 watt psu

If your pc only uses 300 watts.

all 3 of those psu's, will only draw 300 watts.

there would some difference depending on how effiecent it is.

i.e. the 1000W psu, might be 80% efficent, (which means to output 1000 watts it will use 1250Watts.

so (if it was linear, which few are), at 300Watts, it would use 375watts.

Is the 400watt was say 90% efficent, at 300watts it would use 333 Watts.

So the 80% efficent powersupply will use 12% more power.

Many quality psus have better efficiency ratings as you move up the line, so a 700w may be more efficient than what you have now.

No effect whatsoever on the electric bill...

Think about what you asked..

Just because you have an PSU that is capable of putting out more power than you need. Does not mean that is will use that extra power.
Again you must remember the PSU will use only that which is required to operate your system.
