120 for Farscape seasons is a plain rip off. 100+ for Star Trek TNG/DS9/VGR seasons is a ripoff. 80 for Highlander is a ripoff. Sub-60 dollars is good.

That is all.

Yes, some like star trek are very overpriced. I usually search for those on ebay or half.com and try to get them down to about 80. Thank god stargate is reasonable.

Original Star Trek, season 1: $104-130... despite being available for years, and costing much less than more recent series, Paramount is concerned with sucking as much blood as possible from consumers. I'm not really a Trekkie, and the only series I liked was the original, and they priced it way out of my range :|

Get yourself a decent TV tuner card. Those air often enough on Sci-Fi to record them youself.

All the ST shows are over priced. :|

Try Band Of Brothers, The Sopranos and any other HBO set out there. I do not believe the prices for 13 episodes or less DVD sets. What is HBO thinking!

Now, that'd be unethical.

Besides, no special features with that option

ADV has to get their money back from buying the rights, and they don't sell nearly as many copies as Star Trek or 24.

Blame SciFi/USA and the MuppetLords.

not dvd quality either.

Although, if you can capture the show in HD, then it'll be better than DVD quality.

I think it'd only be unethical if you tried selling the DVDs.

That brings up another point. Its more common with older DVDs. The picture will be very grainy, low detail. If you are going to bundle a season onto several DVDs and sell them to me for 40 to 120 dollars, then I expect a nice, crisp picture. :|

I don't like to rent. I prefer to own my own DVDs.

Should he spell it out?

Netflix + AnyDVD + DVDShrink + DVD+R + DVD Burner = YAY!

Or...build an HTPC and record them all =/

Oh, I got what he was saying. Rent the DVD, rip it, encode it, burn it. Thats called illegal. :p

Besides, like I said, I like to have the special features, commentaries, fancy box, etc. I just don't think its all worth 120 bucks for a season.

Yeah but that's because it sucks ass in comparison with its competitors. If Desparate Housewives is at $35 a pop that puts Family Guy at about $70.

I didn't say to copy them. With netflix you can have any DVD you want in about 3 business days and it doesn't matter what the actual cost of the DVD is vs any other. Right now my gf and I are going through Connections2 series by James Burke. Usually these sort of educational sets go for hundreds of dollars because they are generally bought by educational institutions.
So yeah, you don't get the fancy box, but you do get the full discs, don't have to worry about scratching them up, and you don't have to store them.
