Overpaid a credit card, what happens to that money?

I somehow managed to pay a credit card bill twice. So the car is paid off and they just credited the payment onto the available credit. So I started with a 1000.00 credit limit, now I have an almost 1400.00 credit limit. I don't suppose they can/will refund that money back to me?

I will give them a call tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has had anything like this before and knows what happens. Its a GE Money bank card, from lenscrafters.

Just call and request it. Otherwise it will sit until they decide to check the books for the account.

(Lots of experience, was in consolidation, two of my cards were over paid by 1k each)

They will hold it until you request it back, make charges against the account, or automatically send it to you eventually.

Depends on the policy of that CC... some wait a month, some wait 3, b ut eventually they will cut you a check for the credit.

It's gonna stay as credit in your account until you make a charge or ask for it.

Almost every CC Ive had, with different lenders, types, etc, tend to return it to you ASAP without you requesting. They dont want to hang onto your money, its not like they have the right to use it as credit to lend it out to someone else 🙂

They could earn interest on it

It shows up as a positive balance. I don't think they hold it indefinitely. After awhile, 90 to 180 days, you get a check, at least in my experience if you don't do anything.
