Cutting it close as a Christmas present for my parents.

According to the auction I won, it is East Indian Rosewood Wood Veneer. I just applied the 1st coat of Danish Oil. In the pic above it is raw.

For more info on the speakers, check them out here

About $100 into the pair, really one of the biggest bang for the buck speakers around if you have the spare time. Already heard them as a buddy of mine built a set, they sound really good in a small room.

Nice! I want to build a pair just to hear what they sound like but I'd have no use for them past that. 😛

Did you build the cabinets yourself or go through Erich's flat-pack kit?

I'm actually thinking about veneering my next pair of speakers...where did you bid on an auction for veneer?

Yes, I did use the flat pack.

I just looked on ebay for the veneer, I went a little crazy as I won about 7 auctions or so. There is a lot of inexpensive veneer on there.

Thanks, This is my first time veneering and while I read up on it a bit, there are other things I may try next time.

There are a couple edges I need to get some glue under again. I used the iron on method using blue Titebond II glue.

Did you do the veneer with a blade, router, or some other method?

I ended up using razor blades, cutting about 1/8 from the enclosure and the pulling a sanding block toward the enclosure only until it was sanded flush.

And when I say cut, it worked with the grain, I really scored the veneer on the end grain and snapped it off.

Did you check out the ZMV5 before starting the OS build?

I did not see that one, I'll check it out. Theses are for my parents and I know my mother would not want anything large, so I went with the smallest I could find with a decent low end. I may build a small 8" sub next year.

Nice!!!

And what a good feeling when you do something yourself instead of buying product...

Just finishing my first veneer boxes.
Titan DX (odorless!) contact cement was recommended by one of the senior peeps at Parts Express TechTalk. It's basically perfect - no odor, very tight bond.
