Overly Warm Power Supply?

I have the Thermaltake 420W Purepower Active PFC:

420 @ Newegg

Its in a P4 Northwood system. The air blowing out of the exhaust fan, directly behind the processor, is slightly warm, at idle. The air coming out of the power supply is significantly warmer, as are the metal walls of the supply, both at idle. Is this the experience of anyone else with this PSU? And are other PSU's cooler? I have a couple Dells sitting around and of course their 200-250W supplys are cooler, much cooler. Could the PSU be absorbing heat rising up from the CPU?

The unit is nice and quiet but in the summer it really heats up the room. With the computer idling or doing light stuff I'm pretty sure most of the heat is coming out of the PSU. And what does "Active PFC" mean?

Any recommendations on a cool, quiet, stable PSU?

I have the 480 watt version of this PSU and I notice a good ammount of heat comming from the rear PSU fan too. Im pretty sure its normal though..depending on how extreme yours is (cant really compare this in a "you feel my PSU and ill feel yours" type of thing 😀) I dont know if you are going to find a cooler PSU at that output, but I could be wrong.

As for Active PFC, it stands for Active Power FActor Correction and you can read some about it here
